Lake Michigan College is projecting a big jump in enrollment for the fall semester.

LMC Vice President of Enrollment, Marketing, and Government Relations Al Pscholka tells us they’ve crunched the numbers from July and are looking at an increase of as many as 500 students.

If you’re looking at just a point in time where we are in July of 24 to where we were in July of 23, registrations are up by about 54%, which is outstanding news,” Pscholka said.

Pscholka attributes the growth to LMC’s marketing team and all of the new programs that remove barriers to a community college education. He pointed to one of them.

For students who are recent graduates, there’s the two-year Red Hawk Futures, which allows for two years of free tuition if you go right out of high school. So that’s been a big help.”

Pscholka says the Michigan Reconnect program is another factor, especially since the state dropped the minimum age from 25 to 21. Michigan Reconnect pays community college tuition for anyone who has graduated high school but not earned a college degree.

Pscholka says the growth seen at LMC is across the board, affecting degree, certificate, and apprenticeship programs.
