The Berrien County Road Department is investigating the cause of damage to a road south of Three Oaks last week.

The road department’s Adri Boone tells us a small section of Phillips Road near Three Oaks Road was ripped apart.

We were called by someone who had noticed unusual damage on Phillips Road Thursday night, and when doing so, we did take a look and begin our investigation to see if we could determine the cause of that damage,” Boone said. “Unfortunately, we aren’t certain who or what caused the issues there on Phillips Road. So if anyone from the public has any information, they are encouraged to give us a call at the road department.”

Boone says it looks like some piece of heavy equipment used to till soil may have inadvertently been dragged across the road. That is a rural area with a lot of farm fields nearby.

Boone says the road has already been repaired, but the department would like to know the cause of the damage. If the person responsible were to be identified, she says insurance would likely cover the cost of the repair.
