Granger man killed in Niles Township auto accident

The Berrien County Sheriff’s office reports a fatal accident happened in the Niles area Tuesday night.

Just after 8:30 pm Tuesday, emergency crews responded to the 3000 block of South 11th Street in Niles Township where there had been a collision between a commercial dump truck and a passenger vehicle.

On arrival, first responders report the driver of the passenger car was trapped and not breathing. Despite their efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation shows the car was exiting a private driveway onto South 11th Street and failed to yield to the oncoming truck, resulting in the collision. The deceased is identified as a 69-year-old man from Granger. The name of the deceased individual is being withheld at this time.

The crash remains under investigation by the Berrien County Sheriff’s office.
