One of the big Fourth of July holiday events that kicks off this weekend is the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City.

Cherry Festival Director Kat Paye says the event is going to be a lot of tart fun.

We have 150 different events, 90% of them free to the public,” Paye said. “Two amazing parades, the Community Royale on Thursday, July 4th. What a great way to celebrate. Saturday, July 6th, we have another amazing parade, the Cherry Royale Parade. Two firework shows, both on July 4th and July 6th.”

Paye says they have air shows on Saturday and Sunday this weekend featuring the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. She adds there are eight nights of entertainment featuring the Goo Goo Dolls, Brett Michaels, and Dylan Scott.

Of course, you can get cherry ice cream, cherry fudge , and cherry jerky while you’re there.

The festival runs through Saturday July 6.
