Recall petition language submitted against Benton Harbor Public Schools Board of Education Trustee Elnora Gavin has been rejected by the Berrien County Election Commission.
The body met Monday and deemed the recall language submitted by Benton Harbor resident Jerry Edwards unclear.
The reason was a spelling error in the submission from Edwards. It stated that Gavin should be removed from office for voting against the hiring of some support staff at the district. However, the word “approve” was spelled without the R. The commission found that created sufficient confusion so as to render the language unclear.
Edwards told The Herald Palladium he plans to refile.
