The Berrien Community Foundation has awarded an $81,000 For Good Grant to the Berrien County Parks Department for a new playground at Silver Beach County Park.
The park has been raising funds to replace the 30-year old playground with something more modern and accessible, and the fundraising goal is $1.25 million. With the For Good Grant announced this week, the parks department is now at 86% of its fundraising goal for the playground.
Among other sources of funding, the county has received an $850,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

The Berrien County Board of Commissioners on Thursday voted to accept the Berrien Community Foundation grant.
