Michigan’s wolf population remains stable.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources estimates there are 762 wolves in the U.P., an increase of 131 from 2022.
DNR large carnivore specialist Brian Roell says the population is stable and healthy.
“We’ve been seeing this somewhere between 600 to 800 animals for the last 14 years,” Roell said. “It really just shows that we have a stable population and you’re just going to see these variations from year to year when we do the survey.”
Roell says the wolf population has been consistent for the past 14 years.
