Making sure low-income families have access to healthy, affordable food in Michigan is the goal of the Fair Food Network’s Double Up Food Bucks program.

The Fair Food Network’s Holly Parker says the Double Up Food Bucks program helps people with SNAP benefits make better use of their money.

So if you’re an individual or family who uses a SNAP Bridge Card in Michigan, you would go to a participating site, which are, we have over 230 grocery stores and farmers markets all across the state, and you would use your Bridge Card to buy up to $20 per day of fresh fruits and vegetables, and you’d receive a matching amount to buy additional fresh fruits and vegetables,” Parker said.

Parker says they’ve seen an increase in the number of families struggling to buy healthy food since the pandemic.

The Double Up Food Bucks Program is available this week, June 10 through the 16 at more than 230 grocery stores and farmer’s markets throughout the state. That includes the Benton Harbor Farmers Market.
