Tissue donations in Michigan up in May

Michigan’s organ and tissue donation program saw a record month of May.

Just under 200 donors gave patients skin, ligaments, and other tissue, crushing the old record from June of last year.

Gift of Life Michigan CEO Dorrie Dils says just one donor can save a life.

Every opportunity that we get to talk about the need for organ and tissue donation is very valuable to us,” Dils said. “People are dying waiting for an organ transplant and so that is always a priority. But in addition, most people don’t realize that tissue transplants are happening every day throughout the state, throughout the country.”

According to Dils, more than 1,800 people donated tissue in 2023.
