Yet more recall petitions have been filed against elected officials in Benton Harbor.
This time, the targets are City Commissioner Ethel Clark Griffin and Benton Harbor Area Schools Board of Education Trustee Elnora Gavin.
The Berrien County Clerk’s office tells us the petitions filed by former City Commissioner Jerry Edwards say Gavin should be removed from office for voting against the hiring of Title 1 support staff at the schools, and Clark Griffin should be removed for voting against paying the city of Benton Harbor’s bills multiple times.
The Berrien County Election Commission will hold a hearing to examine the clarity of the recall petition language on June 17. If the language is deemed clear enough to proceed, then the petitioner can begin gathering signatures to force a recall election.
