Pro-Palestine protestors on college campuses around the country are using their voices to express discontent with any possible investment or endowment in Israeli companies amid the Israel-Hamas war.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer spoke at the Mackinac Policy Conference this week as an encampment at Wayne State University was being torn down. She weighed-in on the war.

I think the only universal truth right now is everyone is hurting,” Whitmer said. “That is a fact. We have a robust Jewish community in this state. We have a robust Arab American community, Muslim community, Palestinian community. They’re not all one. And it’s important to see the humanity and the pain that people are feeling. So many innocent lives have been lost in the conflict that has happened, started on October 7. There’s still now been a return of hostages. We know that there continues to be loss of life every day. It’s heartbreaking.”

Many universities, including the University of Michigan, say they have no direct endowment connected to Israel.
