Berrien County’s Circuit Court Judges today announced that Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Amy Byrd has been appointed Prosecuting Attorney for Berrien County by unanimous vote of the Circuit Judges. Ms. Byrd succeeds Steven Pierangeli, who will resign from office effective June 3, 2024.
The announcement from the court said Ms. Byrd will hold the Office of Prosecuting Attorney until a successor is elected in the November general election.
A fifteen-year career prosecutor, Byrd has worked at the Berrien County Prosecutor’s office as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney and most recently as the representative for the Prosecutor’s Office on the Drug Treatment Court and as a member of the Opioid Taskforce. Byrd has announced she is running for the office of Berrien County Prosecutor.
Prosecutor Steve Pierangeli’s term was supposed to end in December 2024 but earlier this year he notified the County of his decision to continue his law career in the private sector.
