With the Memorial Day holiday weekend coming up, you need to be aware that several construction projects at Michigan state parks could affect your plans.

Included in the work are Algonac State Park, Brighton Recreation Area, Interlochen State Park, although the Green Lake Boating access site and rustic campground will be open.

Michigan Department of Natural Resources parks and recreation chief Ron Olson says Fort Custer Recreation Area will be closed although the east and west loops may open by the end of July.

The restoration of this work is coming from the $250 million of American Recovery Act funds that were adopted, were proposed by the governor a couple years ago, and were approved by the Legislature,” Olson said. “So, that’s where the money is coming from.”

Olson says check the DNR’s website at Michigan.gov/DNR for more information.

Here in Southwest Michigan, the state parks should all be open.
