Outgoing Berrien County Prosecutor Steve Pierangeli has said goodbye to the Berrien County Board of Commissioners.

At a Thursday meeting, Pierangeli told the board the prosecutor’s office is special because of the county commission’s help.

I will miss so much,” Pierangeli said. “I’ll miss the relationships. I will be local starting over and I’m looking forward to that, but I want to make sure you guys knew from me personally how much I appreciate each and every one of you and collaborating with our office and keeping it what I think is a really great office.”

Board Chair Mac Elliott, an attorney, said Pierangeli continued a tradition of excellence at the prosecutor’s office that has been maintained through several prosecutors.

I’ve never dealt with a better prosecutor’s office in the state of Michigan, and a lot of that has to do with who leads those offices,” Elliott said. “You deserve credit for carrying that tradition. Yeah, you do.”

Pierangeli has been with the Berrien County Prosecutor’s office since 2004. Prior to that, he worked in a prosecutor’s office in Colorado starting in 2000.

Pierangeli is stepping down as prosecutor to work as an associate for a private firm in Benton Harbor doing business law and estate planning. His last day as prosecutor will be in early June.
