Look twice, save a life.
It’s Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and drivers are urged to always look twice and never drive distracted.
Michigan Auto Law Attorney Brandon Hewitt says the most dangerous place for motorcycles is up north on rural roads.
“I feel like you’re on the open road, less traffic, you feel more authority to take something a little bit faster,” Hewitt said. “Obviously standard speed limits out there are 45 and 55 miles an hour. So, speed is the number one factor out there. Also intersections. A lot of those intersections are just controlled by either a stop sign or a single stop light, or even just a yellow light on one side.”
All intersections are dangerous for motorcyclists. Hewitt says speeding was a factor in more than 30% of fatal motorcycle crashes in 2020.
