School bond questions on ballot next week in Cass, Van Buren County

With special elections being held around Michigan next Tuesday, voters in Cass and Van Buren counties will have a handful of ballot proposals to consider.

In Cass County, Edwardsburg Public Schools is seeking a $24.4 million bond for climate control and roof work and technology at its facilities. It will result in a 1.6 mill levy.

A Brandywine Community Schools bond proposal will also be on some Cass County ballots. Brandywine is seeking a $22 million bond for building improvements, meaning a 0.7 mill levy.

Also, White Pigeon Community Schools is seeking a $1.9 million bond for technology and equipment, meaning a 0.85 mill levy.

Over in Van Buren County, Mattawan Consolidated School is seeking a bond of $92 million for new middle and high school buildings and athletic facilities. It would mean a 0.86 mill levy. Mattawan is also seeking an $18 million bond for a pool that would not come with a millage.

Bloomingdale Public Schools is seeking a $17 million bond for building improvements and technology purchases, but it won’t result in a new millage. Bloomingdale is also seeking a $15.4 million bond for building remodeling, to come with a 2 mill levy.

Finally, the Van Buren District Library is asking for a new .40 mill millage for operations.
