General Motors is moving its headquarters out of the Renaissance Center and into a new building that’s being built on the side of the former Hudson’s building in Detroit.

Many are now wondering what could come of Detroit’s iconic RenCen, as the pandemic changed downtown areas with less need for office space. Downtown Detroit Partnership CEO Eric Larson says they’ll have to get creative.

Really being creative about how we make sure we’re maximizing what’s currently in place, but also looking at either an adaptive reuse or even something more radical with what could come of what is a significant amount of land at one of the most critical public assets, our Detroit River,” Larson said. “So, we will look at all of that. So we will look at all of that. And I have great faith in not only the city through the mayor’s leadership, but also with GM’s leadership.

Bedrock will join GM in studying redevelopment of the seven-building Renaissance Center.

Larson says he’s excited for the redevelopment of GM’s Renaissance Center, calling the RenCen “iconic.”
