Set for this coming Thursday is a presentation by the South Haven Speaker Series on the effects of climate change on Lake Michigan.
Series President Mark Odland tells us the guest speaker is Dr. Drew Gronewold, an associate professor of ecosystem science at the University of Michigan.
“Drew is a solid scientist,” Odland said. “He doesn’t come in with theory, he comes in with facts. And I think our audience can look forward to hearing somebody that’s going to bring his experience and his perspective to them on this important topic.”
Odland says there’s a body of research showing Lake Michigan is getting warmer, and that’s not a good thing. He’s noticed when people are told about this, there two common reactions.
“One group is very concerned and acknowledges that in their opinion, based upon science, climate change is an issue on the future of Lake Michigan. Then there’s an entirely different group that look at it and don’t believe that climate change has any impact on the lake at all.”
Regardless of your view, Odland suggests everyone come to next week’s engagement and hear about the data.
“The Impact of Climate Change on Lake Michigan” will be at 7 p.m. at the South Haven campus of Lake Michigan College. Admission is $10 and there will be a Q and A session.
