
A 42-year-old man from Tennessee is dead after confronting police in what’s decribed as a violent altercation — that’s after the man allegedly ran his semi-truck into a house in St. Joseph Township.
According to the Michigan State Police, the incident started late yesterday afternoon when St. Joseph Township Police were responding to a welfare check involving a subject operating a semi-tractor trailer. The officers located the man and vehicle in the Carronde Park area near Riverbend Drive in St. Joseph Township.
When police confronted the man, he reportedly crashed into a patrol vehicle and several other vehicles before crashing into a residence. The man then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers pursued and we’re told the violent encounter escalated. That’s when one officer shot the suspect. The man was transported to Corewell Health and later pronounced dead.
The officer sustained minor injuries and is on paid administrative leave pending incident review.
The suspect’s autopsy and toxicology report will be forwarded to the prosector’s office. MSP is leading the investigation and says they are conducting a thorough review.
