Returning to southwest Michigan this summer will be the United Way’s Rock The Boat Cardboard Boat Races.

The United Way of Southwest Michigan’s Jennifer Tomshack tells us the races attracted thousands of people to the Inn at Harbor Shores in 2019, when the event was last held. The pandemic in 2020 put Rock the Boat on hold, but now it’s back.

Everyone has been wanting to bring it back.,” Tomshack said. “People have been clamoring for it for years, both inside United Way and out at the community at large. We get this question probably more than any other. ‘When are you bringing back Rock the Boat?’ We’re just so excited that this is the year it’s finally happening.”

Tomshack say Rock the Boat will feature up to 75 teams racing boats made out of cardboard and duct tape in the St. Joseph River.

Teams interested in raising funds for the United Way will get detailed instructions for the design of their craft when they register. Businesses and other organizations can also help by sponsoring a team. You can learn more right here.

The races will be July 11, once again at the Inn at Harbor Shores.
