Recall effort against Buchanan Commissioner fails

An effort to recall Buchanan City Commissioner Dan Vigansky has failed after backers were unable to collect enough petition signatures to force an election.

The Berrien County Clerk’s office says about 350 valid signatures were submitted by petitions when the drive needed to collect 380.

If the organizers of the recall want to try again, they’ll have to start from the beginning by submitting new recall language.

The recall petition signatures were submitted early this month after language was filed in December accusing Vigansky of referring to minorities as “you people” and retaliating against female city employees over their complaints about the former city manager.

The Buchanan City Commission last year voted to censure Vigansky and asked the governor to remove him from office.
