A missing 3-year-old has been found safe in Van Buren County.
The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says deputies were called to a home in the 2,000 block of 68th Street in Geneva Township on Monday on a report of a missing boy. He’d apparently pried open a window and left on foot. The child was last seen about a half hour before the report was made and was wearing only a diaper.
Van Buren County Sheriff Dan Abbott was first on scene and requested a K-9 track and drones respond to the scene to assist in the search. K-9 Kuno and handler Deputy Calhoun were called in from off duty to assist. Drones from SHAES and Great Lakes Drones also responded.
The K-9 track was started and it led to a footprint northwest of the home. Police then tracked nearly a quarter mile toward a body of water, but the boy was found about 50 yards away from the water in good health. He only had some minor scratches.
The boy was then returned to his family.
The sheriff’s department says this is the fifth child that K-9 Kuno and his handler have found.
