A key focus in the 2025 budget proposal submitted this month by Governor Gretchen Whitmer is to give additional funding to the MI Contracting Opportunity. Lisa Thompson, director of MDOT’s Office of Business Development, joining the Talking Michigan Transportation podcast this week to talk about the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program.
Thompson says the program is all about helping smaller contractors in Michigan.
“We also administer a small business program, which is a race and gender neutral program with the same aim, to get smaller businesses involved in MDOT and state government contracts,” Thompson said “Our other programs are similar to that, just more based on individuals and getting them engaged in working in transportation.”
Thompson goes on to say the ultimate goal is to get these businesses actively involved in the various stages of road and bridge design and construction around Michigan.
