The American Red Cross is making a new plea for blood donations.
Red Cross Blood Services Central Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Mair says there’s a critical shortage of all blood types.
“This month alone, thousands of blood and platelet donations have gone uncollected nationally,” Mair said. This is in part due to the severe weather we have seen across the country and in Michigan. The snow, ice, and extreme temperatures have made it tougher to move more vital blood products across the Red Cross network.”
Mair says recent weather has stopped people from donating as they normally would, leading to the latest shortage.
The Red Cross is asking for blood donations now. To find out more, go to RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-Red-Cross.
