St. Joseph Ice Fest this weekend

Coming up this weekend is the St. Joseph Ice Fest.

St. Joseph Today’s Daniele Crevier tells us the event starts Friday night when ice carvers from all over the country get to work downtown.

“We kick things off on Friday night with our professional individual competitions,” Crevier said. “So, you get to watch professional ice carvers carve one block of ice, and they make them into magical works of art. That happens from 5 to 8, and then immediately after that, at 8 p.m. we’re going to have our Fire and Ice Tower at the corner of State and Pleasant Streets outside our St. Joe Today office.”

Crevier says Saturday will bring more ice carving and lots of ice-related activities for everyone. They include an ice throne, a frozen fish toss, ice ski ball, and ice bowling. Crevier says the main attraction is the ice sculpting.

Crevier notes a couple sculptures from last year stick out to her.

“Last year we had some angel fish outside the Welcome Center, so that was really cool.”

All weekend long, visitors can take part in the Scavenger Hunt. Stop in the St. Joe Today Welcome Center to grab a map. Completing the hunt puts participants in the running for a $25 St. Joe Today gift certificate.
