Sunday’s Lions game is estimated to have brought in tens of millions of dollars to the metro Detroit area.
An analysis done by East Lansing-based Anderson Economic Group suggests it could be responsible for more than $50 million dollars in economic impact, from ticket sales to hotels to restaurants, bars, retail, and more. Vice President Tyler Theile says there will be even more where that came from.
“That’s national broadcasting rights, and featuring the beautiful city of Detroit on the national spotlight, which normally they wouldn’t get the opportunity to do that,” Thiele said. “Those further economic impacts that might be realized into the future as the city gets exposure and people plan another visit in the future aren’t quantified in our estimate.”
Tens of thousands of fans will be back at Ford Field next Sunday as well. The franchise hosting a watch party as the team heads to San Francisco for a chance to play in the Super Bowl.
