The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Southwest Michigan have been awarded an Out-of-School Time grant from the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential, or MiLEAP.

$50 million in grants were awarded around the state to increase access to before- and after-school and summer learning programs, and the Boys & Girls of Greater Southwest Michigan served as the lead organization in submitting the grants.

The $5 million award to the Michigan Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs will support 16 clubs and about 48 sites across the state, including seven in southwest Michigan. They are two in Benton Harbor, along with locations in Benton Heights, Bridgman, St. Joseph, and Sturgis.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer says the programs “help kids explore their interests, get extra academic support, and connect with their peers” while giving them a safe place to go when not in school.

Any parents interested in signing their kids up for a Boys and Girls Club program should call the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Southwest Michigan.
