Michigan retails sales in November fell in Michigan for the second month, landing at 41 on the 100 point retail index. That’s down from October’s 43.1.
Last year, the November Retail Index was 52.6.
Andrea Bitely is with the Michigan Retailers Association and told us more.
“What this means is that our retailers here in Michigan aren’t seeing that foot traffic, they’re not seeing the online orders,” Bitely said. “They’re not seeing the sales that they need to be successful for this holiday season and to be prepared for those slow months of January, February, and March of 2024.”
Bitely blames slower sales on the auto strike and suppliers weighing layoffs going into the holiday season. She hopes sales pick up this month.
