Another hallmark of fall here in Michigan started Wednesday with the opening of firearm deer hunting season.

For a second straight year, all the deer that hunters harvest during the 15-day period must be reported online. Chad Stewart from the DNR says that the online reporting system worked out well for hunters and for officials.

“Overall, it worked out really well,” Stewart said. “We had over 300,000 deer reported taken by hunters last year, which was a fantastic first year participation for our hunters.”

Firearm deer season will officially end on November 30.

Hunters using bow and arrows can continue to hunt deer until the end of 2023.
