A kickoff of Grand Valley State University’s Lake Accelerated Program was held Monday.

Grand Valley President Philomena Mantella says the program matches students with employers where the student will have a paid internship and a scholarship.

“We need to think of a variety of creative ways to be sure that we’re readying our students for the workplace as well as the broad  changes they’re going to experience over their lifetime and that we are keeping students in Michigan,” Mantella said. “So, the focus of this program really began with talking to our employer community.”

Five companies have joined the partnership. They are Acrisure, Amway, Cascade Engineering, Corewell Health, and Michigan Software Labs. GVSU is also an employer partner.
