Southwest Michigan has had its first snow of the season.
National Weather Service meteorologist Dustin Norman tells us the Halloween snow will continue Wednesday, but taper off by afternoon.
“Overall, the snowfall amounts aren’t going to be too impressive,” Norman said. “We’re looking at half an inch to an inch, but with the first snowfall of the year, we always advise people to use extra caution when they’re driving just because the roads are slippery.”
Norman says many drivers may forget how to drive in the snow when they’re experiencing the first snowfall in a year. He reminds morning commuters to give themselves a bit of extra time.
So, are we supposed to have a mild winter overall?
“We are forecasting a rather strong El Nino, which does result in a leaner, sort of warmer winter with lower precipitation totals in the way of snowfall. However, take it as you may. It really only takes one or two bad snowstorms to create or define a winter.”
Norman says temperatures are expected to get into the 50s later in the week. You can also expect rain this weekend.
