Corewell Health and the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department have teamed up to collect unused and unwanted prescription drugs for safe disposal this Saturday as part of the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
Corewell says there will be two drop-off locations. They will be Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital on Napier Avenue in St. Joseph and the Corewell Health Care Center on St. Joseph Avenue in Niles. Everyone is welcome to stop by all day to dispose of expired prescriptions and other unwanted or unneeded medications so they don’t wind up in the wrong hands.
The event is anonymous, and everyone’s advised to peal the labels off pill bottles.
The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department will oversee the local collection sites to ensure the drugs are disposed of in an appropriate manner.
Corewell director of addiction medicine Colleen Lane says the state has seen far too many opioid deaths, and getting those drugs properly disposed can help make everyone safer.
