Southwestern Michigan College is preparing to kick off a new tradition now that it’s restarted its athletic program. The college says its first annual Roadrunner Classic will feature a total of eight men’s and women’s college basketball games on Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4.

This will be the second season for both Roadrunner teams since SMC re-entered intercollegiate athletics after a 25-year absence. SMC says the weekend will be an opportunity to reinforce and refine what the college built in its first season back.

Vice President for Institutional Advancement Mike O’Brien says when athletics resumed at SMC, college leaders said one of the benefits would be the ability to bring opposing teams and their families to the area to help business and tourism. With the Roadrunner Classic, he says teams from the Chicago area, as far north as Petoskey, and as far southeast as Ohio will be coming to stay overnight and face the Roadrunners.

On November 3, games tip off at 1 p.m. and on November 4, games tip off at 11 a.m.

Admission is free. The Zollar Café will be open to serve Starbucks beverages and other concessions. Everyone’s invited.
