State lawmakers are working to lower prescription drug costs.
A Michigan Senate committee discussed legislation Thursday that would establish the Prescription Drug Affordability Board. Its goal would be to ensure affordable access to medications for all Michiganders.
Senator Veronica Klinefelt of Eastpointe was one of the lawmakers who heard testimony.
“The Prescription Drug Cost and Affordability Act openly and democratically evaluates what employers and the public are being asked to pay for, their medicine, and as a result, the whole industry can benefit,” Klinefelt said.
Klinefelt says the cost of prescription drugs is a pressing issue for all Michiganders.
The board would have the authority to set maximum costs for drugs sold in Michigan.
