Some Benton Harbor residents had plans to stage a party at Charles Yarbrough Park along the river Friday night, but the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety said not so fast.

The department posted a promotional image for the planned shindig to its Facebook page Friday afternoon. It wrote, “Another ILLEGAL PARTY is being advertised for tonight at Yarbrough Park,” noting no one had reserved the park and that all city parks technically close at 11 p.m. on weekends.

The promotional image’s promise of Jello shots was also noticed by the department, which reminded everyone “all alcohol sales are strictly regulated by the State of Michigan” and that no Jello shots were in the park’s future.

It promised to be at the park Friday night “with tow trucks and tickets.” It advised the party’s planner to reconsider the location of her gathering to somewhere outside of the city.
