The Lincoln Township Board of Trustees has been told a plan to improve Lincoln Township Beach is coming along nicely. At a meeting this week, engineer Brandon Mieras with Williams & Works told them he’s put together a budget for the work and the application for state permission will be finished soon. Township Supervisor Dick Stauffer told us they want to expand access to the beach after 2020 brought erosion to it.
“We’re working with EGLE to see about our plans for improved parking down by the beach and possibly to rebuild the trail that’s through the wetlands,” Stauffer said.
The discussions have been going on for about a year now. Plans could include expanding the parking area to around 35 spaces, a place for people to be dropped off closer to the water, an ADA ramp, and access for paddleboards and kayaks. Stauffer says much of the improvements would have to be grant-funded. Mieras said the application to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy should be submitted in September. The township has to be careful how the project is planned because of the critical dune areas surrounding the site.
