A fundraiser is planned for this Sunday to help the city of Coloma pursue a splash pad for Randall Park. Coloma Mayor Marsha Hammond tells us the city council in March voted to allocate $50,000 from the Leonard Fund to get the effort rolling. The Leonard Fund was created with a donation from a resident to fund improvements in town. Hammond says the splash pad would enhance the already popular Randall Park.
“We thought maybe the splash pad would add to it, just something more to give the kids to do,” Hammond said. “We don’t have any lakes or anything in the city of Coloma, so we thought the splash pad would give them something to run through the water and help with the heat.”
The Paw Paw Lake Rotary Brew and Wine Fest will hold its fundraiser for the splash pad at the Knights of Columbus in Watervliet tomorrow.
“They will have craft beers and wines for sampling. If you buy a ticket, which is $40 for admission, that will cover eight four-ounce tokens to sample the beers and such and to contribute to the fundraising part of it.”
There will also be food trucks. The event has been dubbed Bash for the Splash and will run from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Hammond says this is the first major fundraiser for the splash pad, and the city hopes to build on its momentum to reach the $170,000 needed for the project. The hope is to see the splash pad installed and running next spring.
