Another recall petition against Benton Harbor Area Schools Board of Education Trustee Trenton Bowens has been rejected, and a new recall petition has already been filed.

The Berrien County Clerk’s Office tells us the Berrien County Election Commission held a hearing Friday on recall petition language from Shari Szilagyi and found it lacked clarity and had incorrect grammar.

This was the fourth attempt to recall Bowens this year.

Szilagyi first sought to have Bowens recalled for voting against a boiler replacement at the high school back in March. The second attempt was also over the boiler vote, while the third attempt alleged Bowens had “maliciously lied about the petitioner in his public comments to the Election Commission Board” in April.

This fourth recall attempt was over the boiler replacement again. Bowens was not the only member of the school board to vote against the boiler replacement.

The clerk’s office tells us a fifth recall petition was filed Friday by Szilagyi, again for the boiler. A clarity hearing on its language is set for July 19.
