SMSO announces Thursday pop-up concert

The Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra’s Pop Up! Concerts continue Thursday, June 15 at the St. Joseph Public Library.

The Formosa Duo will perform a program titled “Just Dance” at 4 p.m. in the library’s garden. The duo, comprised of Hsin-Ju Yu and Ya-Ju Chuang, will present dance music from around the world featuring violin and piano works by Ravel, Bartok, Brahms, Piazzolla, Monti, Granados, Kreisler and Saint Saens. the performance will feature dance music from around the world. Attendees are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets; families are encouraged to come with small children.

At Thursday’s event, the Wood, Stock and Grill food truck will be on site serving up BBQ.

All Pop Up! concerts are free, small outdoor concert events about 45-60 minutes in length, performed at various locations and times. Each concert features a small ensemble of up to five professional musicians. These informal, outdoor and accessible public settings allow residents and visitors alike to enjoy a more personal experience with music and musicians.

June 22 – The Martin Wind Duo will perform at 4 p.m. at the Maud Preston Palenske Memorial Library, St. Joseph

June 29 – A String Chamber Ensemble will perform at 5:30 p.m. at the Lions Pavilion Park, New Buffalo

August 3 – A String Quartet will perform at 6 p.m. at the Krasl Art Center, St. Joseph

August 10 – A Classical Duo will perform at 6 p.m. at the Krasl Art Center, St. Joseph

August 17 – The Dvorak String Quintet will perform at 6 p.m. at the Krasl Art Center, St. Joseph

August 24 – The KalHaven Strings will perform at 6 p.m. at the Dwight P. Mitchell City Park, Benton Harbor

August 31 – A String Quartet will perform at 6 p.m. at The GhostLight Theatre, Benton Harbor
