Residents looking forward to shopping for discount clothing and home goods at the new Ross Dress for Less in Benton Township will have to wait a little bit longer.

While the storefront sign is up in between Dollar Tree and Kohls in Fairplain Plaza, workers at the site told Moody on the Market that construction is at least a month or two away from being wrapped up.

Back in January, a project supervisor in charge of renovations told us the store should be ready to open by late May. When we stopped by on Tuesday, the interior of the building was still mostly empty – though crews were hard at work inside.

Ross Stores was founded in 1982, and focuses on bringing our customers a constant stream of high-quality department and specialty store brands at “extraordinary savings,” according to its website.

The company works directly with manufacturers to negotiate the deals, and provides savings to customers due to its “no frills” philosophy – no window displays, mannequins, fancy fixtures or decorations in the store.

The supervisor, identified as Joe D., said in January that unfinished work on the building included installing new HVAC, plumbing, flooring, security systems and fire protection prior to the store buildout.

Attempts to reach a representative from the Ross corporate office in California were not successful.
