With the Berrien RESA board of education election coming up next month, St. Joseph Public Schools is throwing its support behind three candidates. Trustees agreed Monday to vote for the candidates on the ballot, each of whom are running unopposed.
Current Berrien RESA board president Dave Pagel, of Berrien Spring is seeking a two-year term. Jackie Van Horn of Stevensville and John Proos of St. Joseph each seek a six-year term.
SJPS superintendent Jenny Fee explained the process more during the school board meeting.
“Rather than having general elections, the [RESA] board members are elected by the local school districts,” Fee said. “There are several candidates up for discussion … the number is only the amount of seats available, so there’s not a lot of competition.”
Berrien RESA serves over 24 thousand students at 15 school districts in the county. They provide services for young children, school age children, young adults, educators, staff and the public – with a mission to optimize student outcomes through collaboration and transformation.
Each school district in the county will send a delegate to RESA to cast their ballots on June 5th.
