Police have found a body in the St. Joseph River in Sodus Township, not far from where a Berrien Springs woman went missing in the water on May 7. The Berrien Springs Oronoko Township Police Department says 42-year-old Shirani Simpson went missing in the river when she went into the water to help her struggling eight-year-old son. On Monday of this week, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department Marine Division found a body in the water about a half mile north of St. Joseph Valley Parkway in Sodus Township. Although the body has not been positively identified, police say it “is similar to” the missing woman. It’s been taken to Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo for positive identification.
