The Algonquin Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution is planning a ceremony for this month to honor what is known as a “Real Daughter” in Bangor. The chapter says to be considered a Real Daughter, one’s father must have participated in the Revolutionary War and they must be a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Buried at Thomas Cemetery in Bangor Township is Real Daughter Lucretia Abigail Reed Wood, whose father fought in the Revolutionary War for the state of Massachusetts. A plaque for her will be unveiled at the May 12 ceremony, which is also to feature State Senator Aric Nesbitt, state Representative Pauline Wendzel, members of the Van Buren County Board of Commissioners, the Bangor Township Board of Trustees, and the Bangor City Council. A descendant of Mrs. Wood will be present to lead the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. The National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution says there are only 767 Real Daughters in the entire United States. The local chapter calls it a “treasure” to have discovered one in its own backyard. The ceremony will be at 11 a.m.
