A new marijuana grow facility has been approved by Benton Harbor City Commissioners. At a meeting this week, they signed off on a marijuana growers permit for Kushava Craft to operate at 261 Water Street. Mayor Marcus Muhammad said whether you agree with marijuana businesses or not, they have made a difference in the community.
“Thee is a positive side to businesses renovating properties, especially eyesores, and getting another water customer,” Muhammad said. “Lord knows, we need more. So, this is another opportunity for the city to do that.”
Kushava Craft has previously operated in Colorado. Its permit to grow at the Water Street location was previously approved by the Benton Harbor Planning Commission. Commissioner Mary Alice Adams questioned whether the city is allowing too many marijuana businesses, but was told it has not yet reached the limit allowed in its marijuana ordinance. The city commission approved the permit with Commissioners Sharon Henderson and Ethel Clark Griffin voting no.
