During a celebration of Law Day at Plank’s Tavern Monday, Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey was honored with the Libery Bell Award for outstanding service to the community.
Members of the Berrien County Bar Association and the St. Joseph-Benton Harbor Rotary Club gathered for the celebration, which also seeks to recognize the role of law in society and to cultivate a deeper understanding of the legal profession.
The Liberty Bell Award is presented by local bar associations across the nation to recognize “a non-lawyer citizen who has given of his or her time and energy to strengthen the effectiveness of the American system of freedom under law, in keeping with the spirit of our Constitution.”
The theme for this year’s Law Day was “Cornerstones of Democracy: Civics, Civility, and Collaboration,” and the keynote speaker was Notre Dame Professor David Campbell.
