Kathryn “Kay” Glenna Welch

Kathryn “Kay” Welch, 94, of St. Joseph passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 25 at the Hanson Hospice Center.

Kay was born on June 20, 1928 to Mary Jane and Alfred Otterbein in Highland Park, Michigan. She was a graduate of Michigan State University and a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was passionately involved in her church, First Congregational Church of St. Joseph. She was a devoted long-time volunteer with Hospice and received special recognition for her 35 years of dedicated service. She was also a volunteer at Lory’s Place and the Krasl Art Center.

Kay married George Welch on September 18, 1956. They had four children together – Kimberly (Tim) Alti, George (Torre) Welch, Marilee (Jeff) Lindahl and Jeff Welch. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren – Kathryn Alti, Nicholas Alti, Taylor Welch, Carly (Payton) Minnema, Justin Lindahl, Jonathan Lindahl, Jennifer Lindahl, Julia Lindahl, Max Young; one great granddaughter, Elliot Minnema; and younger brother, Kyle Otterbein. Kay’s parents, husband and older brother, Keith Otterbein preceded her in death.

The family is hosting visitation at Starks and Mechinger Chapel (2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, MI) on Friday, June 23 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Memorials may be made in Kay’s honor to the First Congregational Church, Lory’s Place or the Hanson Hospice Center.
