Congressman Tim Walberg has had a chance to chat with Berrien County residents at a event held in Stevensville Friday. He addressed about 50 people at the Lincoln Township Library. Among the topics discussed was the PROTECT Kids Act, which would require any federally funded elementary or middle school to get parental consent before changing their child’s pronouns, gender markers, or preferred name on any school form. Another topic was the PIPES Act, which would prevent the president from shutting down pipelines without congressional approval. Those present also asked about safeguarding Social Security, balancing the budget, crime and gun violence, and improving the economy. Walberg has been traveling the Fifth District for the past two weeks during a congressional recess. The Stevensville event was the fifth such gathering he’s held, with others held in Jackson, Lenawee, Monroe, and St. Joseph counties.
