The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department has rallied around one of its own who has been struggling with health problems. Deputy Mia Rankin was rushed to the hospital last month and tumors were found in her abdomen. She was in and out of the intensive care unit following surgeries, but is now recovering. Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey tells us she was expected to be released this week. A GoFundMe page to help Deputy Rankin with medical costs has collected more than $8,600. The 24-year-old deputy has worked at the Berrien County Jail since 2019. Sheriff Bailey tells us he spoke with her Wednesday and she “sounded so much better.” He says Rankin’s speedy recovery is wonderful news that shows “all the prayers have paid off.”
