This Saturday at Lake Michigan College, it’s game on! Berrien RESA is hosting the 2023 esports League Finals this weekend.

Esports is organized video gaming where students compete as individuals or on teams, in online worlds, trying to be the best.

John Phillips, esports coordinator with Berrien RESA says the skills students learn in these competitions helps them develop, and future employers are taking note.

“They’re looking for kids who can think critically, creatively, and can collaborate with others. Well, that is exactly what is required to be successful in esports,” said Phillips.

Esports is getting attention around the world. Students can go on to play for college teams and some college scholarships are available. Phillips says the skills used in esports can transfer to wide variety of careers from engineering and design to marketing and medicine.
