Has there been any progress on raising the federal debt ceiling? Congressman Bill Huizenga tells us it’s been quiet the past week or so. However, he does believe there will be negotiations.
“No one is expecting that there would be any kind of default,” Huizenga said. “That has not happened, and that’s in the interests o everybody, to not let that happen. But that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t have difficult conversations about reforming how we spend the money that comes in, which by the way, is at a record amount.”
Huizenga says he serves on a team that’s been put together to review the budget suggestions and how this issue will be handled moving forward. He says negotiations needs to happen, and he expects the White House will be negotiating on behalf of the Senate. President Biden has said he will not negotiate over the debt ceiling. Economists say a default on the federal debt would be catastrophic.
